The Use of the High Quality Silica Brick in the Coke Oven

With the development of the coking industry and the increasing application of silica brick in the coke oven, the requirements of coke ovens for refractory materials, especially the silica brick use in the carbonization chamber, are higher in the properties such as density, thermal conductivity and purity of raw materials. 

Therefore, many researches are conducted in the reduction of the true density and improvement of thermal conductivity, bulk density and purity of raw materials. New high quality silica bricks such as high density silica brick, high purity high density silica brick and high thermal conductivity high density silica brick have been developed. 

 

1) High density silica brick

Improving the density of silica brick is one effective way to improve the quality and the service life of silica brick. High density silica brick is required to have porosity <16% and density >2.389/cm3.

 

2) High purity high density silica brick

It is made of pure quartzite (SiO2>98%) by adding a small amount of mineralizing agents and binders (e.g., CaO + FeO). 

 

3) High thermal conductivity high density silica brick

It is made by adding high thermal conductivity high density additives such as CuO, Cu2O, TiO2 and Fe2O3. It can effectively reduce the coking time and improve the production capacity of the coke oven.
